If you’re new to the dance world, you probably don’t notice much of a difference from one “slow song” to the next. A slow dance is a slow dance, right? Nope! Different songs that have different rhythms have their own special steps, figures, and dance style. Today we’re going to talk about some of the most popular slow dance styles. You’re never going to hear a “slow song” the same way again…
1. Thinking Out Loud -Ed Sheeran
This song can be danced as a latin ballroom Rumba. When you watch latin ballroom on TV, Rumba is the romantic slow dance you see. Since it’s such a slow style, it will make you feel more relaxed when you’re dancing it. No need to stress if you choose Rumba as your wedding dance- there’s plenty of time to be in the moment and enjoy.
Some other songs that can be danced as a Rumba :
“Shallow” by Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper
"Make You Feel My Love" by Adele
"Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton
"Have I Told You Lately" by Van Morrison
“10,000 Hours” by Dan + Shay feat. Justin Bieber
“Beyond” by Leon Bridges
"Consider Me" by Allen Stone
“Best Part” by H.E.R. feat. Daniel Caeser
2. The Way You Look Tonight by Frank Sinatra
This is a Foxtrot! Very smooth and classy. Foxtrots are a little faster, so if you tend to feel snoozy when you slow dance, this style could be for you. When you’re dancing Foxtrot, you feel like you are gliding across the floor and you’ve been transported back in time.
Here are some other foxtrot songs to help you understand the “mood”:
“L-O-V-E” by Nat King Cole
“You Make Me Feel So Young” by Frank Sinatra
"At Last" by Etta James
“Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” by Frankie Valli
“Fly Me to the Moon” by Frank Sinatra
3. Three Times a Lady by Lionel Richie
This one is a Waltz. Romantic, slow, classic, it’s like a fairytale! A Waltz is a great first dance choice if you’re looking for the prince and princess feel. If you want to be swept off your feet and feel like Cinderella at the ball, a Waltz is for you. If you’re familiar with music at all, waltzes have the classic 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3 timing. Listen to these other waltzes and see if you can pick it out!
